Does anyone know if there is a part number or accessory part number that would be the complete package for the power running boards. I want to add them to my Lariat with the Chrome package (not allowed by Ford ordering). I'm hoping there's just a number for the complete kit through parts department instead of having to piece them all together.
Here's some advice I received from the tech support line at AMP research when I had to buy a control module for my 2010 F-150 (AMP power steps). I mentioned that I was thinking about a new truck and asked if AMP supplied the parts for the newer Ford trucks. He advised me that they did supply some parts, but that Ford uses a different operating system and, for example, on a newer Ford truck, if a motor on the passenger side were to fail, there are not interchangeable with the AMP motors, I could only buy one from Ford...AND the Ford motor would come with the entire step platform, motor, and idler at a price somewhere close to the cost of the entire AMP power step kit.
They're not too hard to put on, especially on a Super Duty which would sit higher and allow more room to lie underneath to install the parts. I put mine on with the help of my wife and we were both in our early 60's at the time. If I get another truck and want to add them, I'll have my sons put them on for me.
In talking with Amp about their product they indicated flatly they did not build and OEM steps. But then reading their website I found that Amp licenses the production to other manufacturers for OEM use. I guess the vehicle manufacturers require small changes to maintain control of the parts base. After looking closely at the Amp setup, despite claims they are fine in the salty north I see exposed motors and wiring and I am not up to having to replace parts after a few winters. Too many moving parts under the vehicle right where the glaciers form from a slushy road.
I looked under 2 Superduty's last week, 1 with power steps and 1 without. Installing factory steps will requiring drilling into the floor board. I also asked the salesman and he stated he believe it was $1800 to upgrade an F150 with the power steps. AMP seems the way to go.
Thanks for the info. I am considering the amps but ideally would like something thats plug and play into the factory harness. I know amp has one on the 150s but from what I can tell it plugs into the CAN bus, and it just doesn't make sense when I'm sure all the factory plugs are there.
