06 f250 diesel had to swap transfer cases because the old one grenade. Bought a second hand used one and it was in neutral when I installed it. Put it in 4wd, and it engaged but won't disengage. I pulled the actuator and turn the shaft with a wrench but its very tight but I could get it to move through all 3 locations. However when it is in the neutral spot, the transfer case does not go into neutral. Now the front output shaft seal is also out so my main question is,
This tcase may have been sitting for a while. Supposedly worked when removed. If there is very little fluid inside, will that affect the 4wd actuation hardware? Thanks guys
Sorry this won't help you much now but I like to have the transfer case on the bench and try out every position from 2H to 4L spinning the input shaft/yoke and watching the output to verify.
I don't know about a 273 but with a 208 when the shift fork pads wear or are gone it won't stay in the position you put it.
