Accelerator cable problems

I am having some issues with my cable. I have a 66 f100 with a 352. The main problem is where the cable comes out of the firewall it hits the valve cover. Should there be limited clearance here? What I have done is bought someone elses project and found more than one thing that has been hacked together. Also shouldn't there be some sort of bracket on the intake to hold the cable? If so anyone know where I can order one from? Also in the car it doesn't line up with pedal seems too high but at same time it appears too low coming out of firewall. I'm at a loss as to what to do to fix it.

The original accelerator cable developed a sort of "S" shape to it. It turns right when it leaves the firewall and then curves left again to line up with the bracket on the top of the intake manifold.

Here's a picture of what the bracket looks like that was used on the manifold. I'll dig up the part numbers in a bit if someone else doesn't beat me to it.

C5TZ-9723-A - Accelerator Cable Bracket Assembly
Bolt - 5/16" hex hd. 20326-S7-8
Lockwasher - 5/16" regular 34806-S7

I don't see any of this first one available NOS. Used might be the best bet.

C5TZ-9792-A - Carburetor Clamp - Clip (throttle cable to engine bracket)
Screw & Lockwasher (clip to engine bracket) 1/4" - 20 x 5/8" hex. hd. 43263-S8

There are plenty of the clips available NOS.

Thanks for the help so far. Tried to run the cable in a S but it is so close to valve cover it would need to do a 90 straight out of firewall to clear. I don't know if maybe he has the wrong perches and causing motor to sit to high or what. Best bet might be to just go with a universal.

Pruitt66: Was the truck a V8 from new? If it originally has a six popper, it may explain the cable issue....
Any indication of other holes in the firewall?

The Lokar cables are nice, I have one on my Mustang

Yes has original motor in it. No other holes that I see. If I can figure out how to get pictures on here I'll post some

Here's where it comes out of firewall and runs into valve cover.

Here is a pic of what mine looked like prior to disassembly. Perhaps someone else has a better pic. This is the only one I could find but you can see that either my cable mount comes through the firewall higher than yours or the engine is sitting lower. I hope this helps. This a 352.

The fact that there is currently an FE engine in the bay does not guarantee that it left the factory with one

If your VIN begins:

F10A = 240 cid 6 cyl *
F10B = 300 cid 6 cyl *
F10Y = 352 cid 8 cyl *

F101 = 240 cid 6 cyl **
F102 = 300 cid 6 cyl **
F108 = 352 cid 8 cyl **

*Gas
**Low Compression

First three characters indicates truck series, F10 = F100, 4th character indicates engine (The character shown in BOLD type above)

If your 1966 VIN begins:

F10A = 240 cid 6 cyl *
F10B = 300 cid 6 cyl *
F10Y = 352 cid 8 cyl *

F101 = 240 cid 6 cyl / F102 = 300 cid 6 cyl / F108 = 352 cid 8 cyl
No such VIN engine codes for these engines.

First three characters indicates truck series, F10 = F100, 4th character indicates engine (The character shown in BOLD type above)
Fixed it for you, 1965's use different VIN engine codes for 240/352.

The 1 - 2 & 8 VIN engine codes are not for these three engines (see pic below).

Bill: below is OP's initial post to this thread, his handle has 66 in it, he states it is a 66, the grille in pic is a 66.... While this has not been verified by him posting the VIN to be decoded, that is what I based my response on................

Yes I caught all that jazz, but you need to be specific when you type info like this, because not everyone pays attention.

You know it's a 1966 and I know it's a 1966, but how many others do?

I'll try and post a picture of vin plate in the morning just to try and clarify what was originally in it. I did notice the cab mounts are all but gone, could this possibly let the fiewall sag enough to cause this?
