new firewall insulation installation

getting read to install my fire wall insulatio, how many attach pins does it take? would you slit up from the bottom to go around steering column or slit from the top? any other experiences or tricks that you all have had that would be good info while installing?

Don't know about the pins but the slit is on top of the column.

I looked at my firewall pad last night. The steering column is slit from the top

While you have it out add some sound deadening material to the firewall to help kill the noise. I would match the original one on retaining pins, and use the same holes. Most of the custom installer now just use spray contact cement to hold it.

In my 75, I had installed a new firewall pad, it was thicker that the original and the rubber "pins" would not hold it on. I ended up using some stainless button head machine screws, washers and locknuts. Other than that, I have not advise on a bump side pad. Good luck
