I had posted this in the in line 6 forum but may not have been the best spot. I'm finishing up a 1954 Ford F250 with the 223. Rebuilt and ready to fire up. However, it's lacking the timing pointer on the timing cover. From what I can tell it should have the one that bolts on using the cover bolts. This is different because it's the cast iron cover, not the stamped steel. From what I have seen the pointer should be at the 12 o'clock position but I can't confirm that. Can someone post some pictures of the location of the pointer so I can get an idea of the location for timing it. Thanks.
The pointer is very close to the 12 o'clock position. I am not sure if it is exactly at the 12 but if you have one that bolts on, it can only be in one position.
That's the issue, I don't have a pointer. It was missing.

Ahh, you are probably looking for B6TZ-6023-A, which I think looks something like this. I don't have an immediate source.
However, you can always set the engine to TDC (looking at the valve positions, putting a long indicator into cylinder 1 etc etc) and then mark the timing cover accordingly.
