Front tank pump quit working while I was running on it. Rear tank is working fine. Assumed pump failed in front tank. Dropped tank and replaced pump assembly. Before installing in tank I plugged it in to test it, turned key on and had no pump activity. Then jumped 2 and 6 at self test turned key on and still no pump activation on front tank. So at this time I am leading towards possibly a bad fuel tank switch for front tank? Anybody experience the switch to go bad for one tank? Any advice would be appreciated. Harness connection/pins/wires at the tank look clean at first inspection. Thanks for your time.
Hi im new to this and was wondering if someone could help me/lead me in the right way. I ran a pos. & neg. wire from the battery straight to the fuel pump and the pump is working but the truck still won't start any ideas and thanks in advance
Still no start after replacing fuel tank selector switch. Time to take a harder look at the harness and connections. What should the voltage be going to the pump assembly? Thanks.
Can anyone provide a testing procedure to troubleshoot no power to front tank fuel pump knowing that the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay and the selector switch do work. I have done a little surfing but have not been able to find anything related to a dual tank system for a 96 F250 with a 5.8L. Found some info for earlier year models like 92 and 93. Part 1 -1993 Fuel Pump Circuit Tests (Ford 4.9L, 5.0L, 5.8L) Thanks.
Just ground pin #6 of the self-test plug.
Turn on the key.
Use a loading test light and start working your way from where in the circuit you have power to where you do not.
Oh one more question when you say ground six pin out you mean place jumper between 2 and 6 of the self test plug or jump 6 to good ground location? Thanks.
Shorting 2 to 6 will ground pin #6 OK if the PCM Computer is plugged in and you have a good ground from pin #6 to the PCM Computer and then on to the body ground on the passenger fender and the body ground has a good ground to the NEG (-) post of the battery.
Grounding pin #6 to a good ground location will close the fuel pump relay to run the fuel pumps also with the key on. But will not check the ground path from Pin #6 to the PCM and to the NEG post of the battery.
Note the small black wire with a white stripe in the photo below at the body ground is the PCM Computer ground wire to PCM pins 40 & 60. /
Found the problem. Red wire is power to front tank. Brown/white wire is power to rear tank. Rear tank was still working but not for long. Damage was done about six inches from where this harness plugs into the firewall obviously rubbing on something. It will be nice to have two tanks again. Thanks for the help again Subford. Once I figured out the diagram it was a piece of cake.
