Dealing with my 6.9 IDI and im going thru this glow plug system which seems to be butchered up. Looks like ill be doing the manual system install. But besides this issue. I see another I was able to get 5 out of the 8 glow plugs out. Seems like they were snapped and a wire terminal was placed on the exposed glow plug rod. Now the plug is literally a cm away from the block. Anyway to get these out? Would drilling and tapping be the only way to get this done?
if you can not grab what is left with a pair of vice grips to twist it out, your left with drilling it out. and that usually requires the heads to be pulled off the engine to do it properly and keep all the crap out of the cylinders.
or weld something to it and give it a twist, as it is heated by welding it eases the thread and more likely to go out. I have been succesfull with welding nut to it and wrench it out.

I use this trick for stripped or broken bolts and plugs almost daily. I can attest it's very effective.
i use it for broken wheel studs on the large trucks and on broke/rusted manifold bolts all the time too. just never thought to use it on broken glow plugs.
