glow plugs?

I have a 1985 F-250 Diesel I have changed pretty much every component in the glow plug system and the glow plugs continue to go bad every couple of months. They are burnt and broken off when i pull them out. What would cause this?

What is the brand of glow plug? Autolite and Champion are known for short life spans. Stick with Ford/Beru plugs.

To many off brand glow plugs blister when they fail. When you try to remove the blistered plug it breaks off and falls down in the cylinder. This is not a good place for it to be. About the only way to get it out is take the head off. Not something you want to do for fun, there are much better things you can do for fun.

I here that i was just wondering if anybody new if these blistered or not. I think there half good since they come with a two year warranty on them but i really dont want to take the heads off. done it once for a headgasket and once was enough.

My plan is to change the system over to manual, with a switch. No more parts breaking or burned Glow plugs.

My controller went out soon after I got my truck 3 years ago. The quick fix was a momentery switch hooked up to the glowplug solinoid trigger post and terminating the factory wire

had a problem with my conroller continue to cycle glow plugs after it was warmed up. burnt up my glow plugs. i put a push button switch wired up to cut off power to controller. hold button to allow power to switch to heat glow plugs and once its running let off button and it cant keep cycling. been using it for 3yrs now and it works great. and if someone trys to steal it they are going to burn up my starter before they find the glow plug button.

Well I installed the switch today, but I haven't been able to test it out yet. I had the truck pluged in, and hot. And I don't need the glow plugs then.
I'm installing some new gauges, Tach, Boost, Pyro and Trans temp. I'm also installing a Banks Ram air and a new set of glow plugs.

Mine used to burn out plugs too, the reason was too early injection.
Got the timing retarded and it stopped burning out plugs. Just a tip.
