It seems like most people think Motorcraft ZD9's are the best for IDI's. That's what I run personally, and it had no trouble this winter. Depending on your year 6.9, you may need the ZD1A with the male terminal style connection at the top. Later 6.9's use the 7.3 glow plug system, which uses ZD9's

I'll take that as a yes thanks. Could you tell me how to check my glow plug system to see if it's working?

I asked because I heard cheap glow plugs can swell and possibly break off in the block

Yeah, that's true. I took 8 autolites out of my truck and 1 was swollen to the point that I had to shoot penetrating oil around it and very carefully and forcefully pull it out. Luckily it didn't break.

That experience taught me to spend the extra money on a nice set of Motorcraft glow plugs. It's not much more anyway.

You can tell a gp works by taking a short piece of wire(both ends stripped), attaching one end to battery +, and with the other touch the GP. You should see a small spark when you do it. If you don't see anything, the GPs likely bad. If you *do* see a spark, it's definitely good.

Just a dumb question.... but did you read the stickies at the top of the forum?

I bet if you did, you would find the answer to these questions a lot faster than waiting for people to reply....
And then wondering if they actually know what they're talking about or not....

I'm pretty sure that people who read the stickies don't need to post here...
