Question Need help with oil sending unit

I just recently purchased an 89 F350 with the 460, and while it runs and drives great, there is a pretty big oil leak coming from the oil sending unit, the previous owner ran a mechanical gauge, and I don't think they sealed it up properly, I have to add a quart every morning.

I know where the sender is located, my problem is getting to it. What would be the easiest way to get back there?

I figured removing the throttle body would be the best, but I don't have a lot of experience with these 460's, so I was hoping someone would have a little info on how to get it off.

Thank you!

I just reach around from the right (passenger) side to get to mine. If you cannot do that, then you would need to remove the TB as you stated.

I just replaced my oil sending unit. It was hard to see and hard to reach back there.

To make things easier I removed the throttle cable bracket and associated items, but not the throttle body.

This bracket is held on by two bolts. The bracket supports the throttle cable, the cruise control cable and the trans kick-down cable. Removing these things is quicker and less work compared to the throttle body itself. And no gasket replacement.

I did end up removing the plenum, just 4 bolts, and it could be moved out of the way enough to get back there. Cleaned up the surfaces and applied a new gasket as well as a layer of rtv, and all is well. Thank you!
