Battery Charger Cable Hot
I hooked up my 10 amp battery charger to my passenger side battery which I've done before. This time the negative clip got so hot it was smoking and melting the cable coating. What would cause this? Made sure they were connected to the terminals. Bad charger?

Several possible reasons the clip got hot,here's two of the most common. Clips undersize for max amp output of charger. Poor connection/continuty between wire and clip. The cure for first is obivous but trick used for secound is a good idea while replaceing clip. Test volt drop or just make a new connection to assure good continuty.
Uncrimp wire,cut off and strip then solder clean wire to clip before recrimping. Before messing around with reconnecting wire,make certain heat didn't ruin spring in clamp.
