Theft....

Well it finially happened, my truck was targeted apearantly by some dumb....well lets not finish that though....anyways I was at work driving one of the vans as we didn't need a 10,000 capable truck (i had less then 500# of cargo which the van handled and figured I will save the fuel) anyways while up in the northern Ky area I got a call from my boss which was rather odd, but answered it anyways and was asked "is there someone supposed to be picking up your truck?" again another odd question (the only other person would be the other half and they would text me ahead of time if that would be the case and leave me another vehicle if needed)...

checked every thing over and nothing went missing thankfully, but I must say if I didn't make that TAM purchase off a fellow member here Enigma most likely would be gone...so I am thank full to the other member who put that unit up for sale when they did!!

To any one thinking of the Cyclops TAM relay, get it, it may be the difference of someone making off your your truck or someone hearing your truck trying to start and stopping a would be thief....plus I figure $100 verses $7,000+ is a lot better....

ok enough of my ranting and

Cyclops saved the day. I have thought many times that once my wife and I full time RV, I will have to invest in it. Right now though, because of where I work and where I live the chances of it being stolen are very, very slim.

You got lucky brother, no other damage to the truck like door locks or anything?

So they tried to steal it but couldn't start it? Did they get caught? I have a Cyclops on mine but the last couple years I noticed the remote goes thru batteries really quick, like every month or so it's dead.

no, the lock had already been damaged from the time the tablet went missing) but aside from that no, they (according to my boss) found a key to start the truck, which is why I believed they found the spare key, which I relocated to a undisclosed area of the truck that will be harder to access

as for investing, I would do so immeadiatly, granted its not fool proof but it will handle the most basic of ID10Ts, even if the chances of it being stolen are slim I would still invest in it...this is reason enough....

correct, they were trying to get it started (I had the only remote to it and the other half has the other), as for the remote eating batteries, I can live with that if it keeps my truck from becoming another statistic, yes I am sure if a thief wanted it bad enough they would find a way but those types of thieves are usually after more exotic ($$$$) cars...I currently have a pedal lock and the TAM, so my next piece of the puzzle will be when I get my "performance chip" which will also have a no start setting/mode progeammed into it, adding a third layer of defense/foiling to the puzzle....

As for catching them, it was my boss who thought that my truck starting was an odd thing (I was out of the city and they know I had my key on me) and went to see why my truck was trying to start and confronted the idiot...as for police involvement, I figured they won't try again as they know we watch our lot now....and plus nothing was damaged other then there pride/ego... Plus Karma will catch up to the person soon enough and they will have there dues...

Another Herin addict turning his life around..... I caught one trying to pinch mine in the wally mart parking lot. I managed to stomp his fingers into splinters before the cops showed up. They tried to make scary faces at me for awhile...... I told them he was hiding under my truck and I drove over his hand by accident...He was crying to much to complain.....

There isn't much that I hate more than a thief...stealing what we have worked so hard for. Glad to hear he was foiled, sorry to hear that you didn't get to stomp his fingers...

Glad to hear Cyclops saved the day. Proof that such an affordable solution does work as designed.

Maybe so, but is that really a good excuse? After all, you're not implying that you're going to purposely drive into, and park in areas that are prone to theft just because you get a cyclops, right?

The idea is protection for the worst case scenario, while hoping you never have to actually use it.

I see your point and understand it 100%. The fact though is that if I do take it to work, it is parked about 100 feet from an armed guard inside of a compound that no one gets into unless you have prior authorization. At the house, we live in the country and you cannot even see the truck from any public road.

I fully intend to get the Cyclops when we start to live on the road and have to park the truck in not so secure areas. I also plan to put the Hydra on no start and remove the controller.

Trust Sous, Hartwell is like Mayberry. His truck is safe there, and like he said, work, ain't happening there. He has a chip with gearhead tunes as well. I believe they offer no-start.

2 years next month my OBS was stolen out of my work parking lot about 2 a.m. and used to break in, through, a motorcycle shop window and steal 4 cycles and put a moped in the cab....used my tailgate as a ramp and abandoned it down the tracks...Cops found out when they got a call from the train engineer coming down the tracks....So I have the Cyclops on this one and the batteries do wear down fast.

I think the button gets depressed a lot being in my front pocket all the time with me doing so much bending and crouching. I use it with the club & the TS6 just to buy time hoping they'll give up.
The only problem is pulling that darn thing everytime a problem arises so that is out of the equation. I just cant seem to pinch it securely enough when I try to yank it out...getting scatched up a bit...

We have around 6-12 stolen a week in the city (>850,000 people) where I work. They are almost ALL taken from shopping mall parking lots or grocery store parking lots. It is only 3 hours to the border from here, and the thieves head straight there to pick up a load of illegals the second the truck is stolen. Sometimes they are well south of San Antonio before the owner even knows the truck is gone. They sit in the parking lots and wait and watch for the vehicles they want. As soon as the owner enters the store, they make their move. The thieves are paid a commission per truck by the coyotes in South Texas...usually $300-500. The other common use has been mentioned here already...smashing through store fronts and throwing as much stuff in the back as they can before driving away (< 2 mins in the store usually) and abandoning the truck nearby.

Set your tuner to "no start", pull the little controller off the dash, and take it with you when shopping. That will solve the whole problem. Or get the Cyclops. That obviously works, too.

Jamie, if you don't mind me sidetracking your thread a bit, I would like to throw an idea out to the FTE collective. If you do mind, let know and I will edit this post...

Has anyone thought of an idea or a way to make the Hydra controller/cable connection a quick disconnect? Perhaps this has not been a problem in the past, but I imagine that the connection between the cable and controller would become worn or loose after a few hundred disconnects and reconnects.

Just an idea...

Watched a Discovery Channel program on Drug Smugling, the F250 is their primary vehicle to aquire because it holds a lot and can navigate the off-road in the Boarder Area. I forget where, but a Texas Town has the highest theft rate for the F250. Sad.

I use a Revelco.

Poor kid id luck, my boss knows how I can be and knows what type of tools I keep in my truck, he is lucky because I would have ran his hands over or smashed them with the door, then used a hammer to smash there arms…
