2001 upper & lower ball joint replacement

hello, am new to this site, and hope that I am staying within the rules! , I have recently replaced both tie rod ends and found out when I took my truck for an alignment the mechanic stated that I had bad driver side ball joints (upper & lower) I confirmed this with SEARS and they stated that it was all the ball joints upper & lowers! the Haynes repair manual (1999-2010) states "ball joints on 1999 through 2013 2WD models were not replaceable". if anyone has something different and or can send me some good advise I am all open please let me know something thanks

the ball joints are replaceable, I am not sure why the manual would say they are not, they are not too bad to do. On the 2wd you should still have the twin I-beam system, just remove the knuckles and the ball joints will press right out.

Mr. Finch thank you for replying that was really quick, I did notice on the top of the upper ball joint where you typically find a nut, well there is some sort of a flat nut with a split in it with some numbers and an angle (degrees) any ideas before I get dirty, please advise. thanks again

that is your camber/caster adjustment sleeve. when doing and alignment you loosen the pinch bolt (in the I-beam) and turn that sleeve to adjust the camber and caster settings. Usually the original sleeve is not adjustable, it would have a tab that slides into the gap where the pinch bolt is. When I get the knuckles off I usually take that sleeve out, and replace it with an adjustable one, or atleast make sure it breaks free easily, that way when I get the truck on the alignment rack and it turns out to need an adjustment I know I can just slide it out and install an adjustable one with minimal fighting and swearing.
