Fuel level float repair

The brass float on my fuel level sending unit has a hole in it. Anyone repaired these floats or just order a new one?
Thanks

Carpenter sells a replacement float for around 5 bucks.

C0AZ-9202-B = The original float is still available from Ford, it's the same 1957/79 for all FoMoCo vehicles.

For 5 bucks this probably isn't worth the effort but this is how we did it on carburetor floats. First heat a pan of water to just below boiling. Submerge the float and look for bubbles to mark where the leak is. Drill a 1/16 hole in each end of the float. Gently blow all the fuel out that has leaked inside the thing. Clean it up really good. Re-solder the seam first then both of the holes. Use a good electric soldering iron. NO TORCH! Unless you want to set off a little bomb on your work bench. Don't let it cool while you solder it or the air expansion in it will blow a pinhole in the solder when you close the last hole. After it has cooled repeat the hot water dip to leak check it.

Thanks for the tip on the soldering iron. I may try that before ordering a new one.

I put this one in my '65 F250 tank: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/omx-1772901 for: $3.97

Summit doesn't list for a Ford but it looked the same & fit into the hook arm the same way - only difference being it is made of plastic. I think it will last longer than the OEM brass unit if you use ethanol blended fuels.

I ordered a whole unit gasket and all from dennis carpenter. I was rinsing out the tank and the metal parts of the sending unit arm were too rusted to put back in the tank with a clear conscience..
