Thanks Franz, interesting.
Two years ago our 2005 Lincoln LS needed both rear springs replaced after the they had both broken about a 3 inch section off the top coil. Manufacturing problem. The spring shop looked long and hard at several sources and found they were a non stocked item from Ford/Lincoln and not available, even from Jaguar who was responsible for the suspension. Several other components had come from Jag. They ground the top flat again and reassembled the car, 1" lower in the rear. Looked and rode like hell. Custom wound springs would have been expensive for a vehicle rapidly heading for trade/sale. After market springs were available, all with a 2" drop for the ground huggers. So even the simple normal maintenance vehicle parts can disappear forever. (Several salvage yards turned up springs in the same condition as those we already had.) Expectation that everything will always be available is indeed a myth until actually proven.
Wow. That sucks but I'm still willing to bet you when harnesses are installed they are all the same whether you ordered up fitter switches or not. Wouldn't make sense to build different ones when cost per unit would be higher vs all the same harness. My money's on them all being the same. It looks like it's not a big deal since he got the change made with the order. Congrats on that!
I noticed on the Price and Build that when you click on "dual alternators" it included Upfitter Switches in your build. Well all Superduty Diesels now come with dual alternators ---------- so we should get the Upfitter Switches automatically.
I asked the CHAT representative that question: Here is the answer:
The diesel in the superduty comes wih dual alternators. With dual alternators it looks like you get the Upfitter Switches automatically. Is that correct?
Shelby says:
I certainly understand your curiosity. I am reviewing the upfitter switches information now.
Shelby says:
I appreciate your patience. Upfitter Switches are included with Dual Alternators.
If you do not have the package you could check for the wires. They are behind the passenger kick panel, easy to check. I would like to know if they are there out of curiosity.
Upfitter switches do not automatically come with Dual Alternators...or Dual Heavy Duty Alternators.
When I was ordering my truck adding the upfitter switches did kick it up to the dual heavy duty alternator (note there is no "s": only one alternator is heavy duty, the other is standard duty). The reason given was the combination of other electrical options pushed the total amperage load past a certain threshold. I am not sure which they were and it may be that the supplemental cab heat which is included here in NY was the heavy draw item.
Yeah....but what I'm saying is you don't automatically get the upfitter switches if you order the Dual or Dual Heavy. Even in the cold climate areas...they don't give you the switches without you picking them from what I remember. I think you are reading my statement backwards....lol

Correct, even with the dual alternators the uplifter switches is an additional charge.
Can you just buy the panel that comes with the switches and wire your own aftermarket relays? It is conceivable for the switches to just send signal to a small box containing the relays (under the hood). Anyone that can do small household electricity projects could do this.

Thanks for the reply but I did read your statement correctly. I was just adding information for those who had not been around for the thousands of posts regarding builds starting back in February. The upfitter switches definitely have to be added to the order and will not automagically appear.

Good start but don't forget to add another fuse box unless the total draw desired can be handled with only a single fuse in the supply. Even then each relay should be fused to protect the powered item with an appropriately rated fuse of its' own.
I just reordered my truck with the up-fitter switches. While I was at it I got the Adative CC, rear wheel liners, and the safe. Pushed me back to the back of the line but I only get to do this once and wanted to get it right.

I was able to add my switches without losing my spot. Might wanna see if they can do that too if it's not too late.

Thanks for the heads up. I was told by the sales guy that my original order could not be changed and I had to start a brand new order. He said it was only a one time deal that I could change the order. Anyway I'm willing to wait and probably will not get the truck until January. Maybe December. Time to let the factory got more of the production issues sorted out. Oh the wait!!!
