Power steering pump and brakes

99 psd. I noticed that the truck won't turn the tires from a stop. It whines and the tires move when the truck starts to move. On top of this the brakes seem a bit hard at times. Not always though

From what I read the power steering pump also drives the brake assist (is that right?).

Just checking fluids I noticed the power steering pump reservoir was a bit low. Would this cause the problems I am seeing or should I go ahead and just change the pump before I lose the brakes at the wrong time?

Truck has 252k miles and I don't know the maintenance history. . .

Thanks, Kelpy

Sounds similar to mine. Idk if it's the original pump but I'm at 650,000 miles. Still going.

Holy smokes that's a lot of miles! I'm amazed that the pump has lasted that long.

Like I said I'm not sure but most the rest of the truck is original aside from a few of my personal mods. Still have the original seat even though it has a huge hole in the driver side I cover with a blanket

I hope someone with knowledge drops by. I would like to know myself.

2 wheel or 4 wheel drive? Stock or larger tires?

Yeah, the PSD uses a hydroboost system.

You can if you want, but if it were me, I'd flush the power steering system first.

When I had problems it was the front brake lines, might want to check them out.
