So I need a new bed due to floor rot. Id like to find a replacement with the toolbox built in behind the passenger door. I know that's probably asking a lot but if anyone knows where one is on the east side of the country I am in Connecticut.
Second issue is the splines that connect my steering column to my steering shaft are stripped any ideas on how to fix that besides just tacking a weld on it. Thanks
yea i have considered that. i just don't know how good it would come out just ripping a hole in the side of the bed and sliding that in. its too bad my floor is rotted because the rest of the bed is in good shape. the problem is someone just laid down some diamond plate steel on top and body sealed it in place.

Aw yea that's the same thing what happen to my.
It took me 2 months before the junk yd called me that located one for me. $250 this was in 1979 I call up to 200 miles away. and the last yard, I called a 50 miles but he posted on the junk Yds hot parts locater that the got one.
No tailgate but had the side tool box in good shape.
But One problem, in order for the mounting holes to line up.
What, I had to do was dent in the back side at the spring eye bolt head area cause it came in contact with the backside of the box.
I later cut a 3x4" square access to remove the spring bolt. I made a sheet metal door and seal with a light coating of seam sealer.

Have you considered installing a metal hatch cover (for a boat)? you can get a size that you want, and they're water proof. Check out Cabela's online.

i am trying to keep the look of it stock. just thought it would be cool to find one with the box. i really don't need it. i would just fix my bed if i knew a good way to do it. like i said the bed sides are perfect and straight so frustrating.
I don't know why someone couldn't cut out the floor of the bed and replace it with aluminum plate or aluminum diamond plate, or steel for that matter. Then paint it with bed liner. I've seen pics of full sized trucks with the wood kits too.
I remember on this bump site that someone had ordered the patch panels an the corrugation width was different an did not line up with what was in their bed.
Boy that should look good!
I have seen many bumps with the side tool box in the junk yds here in my area in past yrs. But now days have not seen a bump in six months at any of the four Junk yds PnP with in 50 miles.
The big cities have run out of monthly in put of these old iron classics.
The ol cash for clunkers causes many people to turn in many classics at such a high rate they flooded the junk yards then.
Now days theirs not any siting around like was before in peoples back part of their drive ways with flat tires.
Keep an eye on Craigslist or other ads for pickup bed trailers. Many were hacked into a trailer when the engine or tranny gave out. Some can be pretty pristine in their condition. Also, wasn't it fellow FTE'r Randle who totally rebuilt his box from many parts?
