You can come work with me at the dealership and get D plan. For your efforts you will not only learn the joys and truths of the industry, but you'll save a few hundred bucks vs what you can get walking in the door any other day. For Petes sakes folks. The internet is full of near Z plan pricing. There is no magic godmother fairy to save thousands more.
Franz, I have X-plan from my dealer now, awaiting the build. I thought that was gonna be as good as it gets on a hot truck, are you saying most will do better. If you get a lower sales price are there more fees then added on to make up the difference.
Not trying to be smart ***. I know that they need to make a profit and I want to be fair, but I also want to get my best deal and understand the business better.

I have found the Costco plan quite fair. A lot of people fail to realize that salesmen also have families to feed and kids to go to college.

I went to get my mother a Honda Odyssey with the Costco plan. When they gave me the price I looked at him and said I'm not paying that. He told me that they could not negotiate off that price. I told him no problem someone else will and left. In less than a hour got the call back. Got the car a little below invoice witch was about 2000 below Costco.
That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the input. I think, like it has always been, that it comes down to the dealership, your relationship with that dealership and the salespeople (if you have one) versus the modern presence of internet pricing. The sad truth is that the prices can vary wildly for the same truck. To me, it is a commodity. I am not out to steal the truck and bankrupt the dealership, but at the same time I don't wish to spend thousands extra from what I could have paid.
In the end, it needs to be a deal that I am happy with and the dealership is happy with. It is sad that I have bought too many vehicles where the dealership makes it a huge issue that if you get a great deal, then the salesman suffers. When I find that, out go elsewhere.
X plan pricing is easy to get, there are 3400+ companies and orgs that you are prob are a member of or can be....like the Mustang Club, anyone can join and you get x plan.

You're right! I rant about that quite often. That doesn't mean a better deal can be had. It's only by a few bucks though so I don't think X plan is bad for the trade off of KNOWING you're getting a good deal. Generally I think anything between X plan and Z plan is a really good deal that I would be fine paying as a consumer. If you look at an invoice you'll see all the plans listed. The difference between them isn't a big number in the big picture. A dealer can't sell at D plan or A/Z without either the pin to get kickback money from Ford, or fees to cover the difference. D plan is pretty much invoice minus holdback, but a good chunk of the holdback is used for overhead vehicle expenses (interest, lot damage, clean up, full tank of fuel, minimum commissions, etc). That doesn't mean we can't get close, especially if it's an older unit we wanna move.

Amen! I try to buy local whenever I can to support my local business people as I live in a smaller city. I know several people at the local Ford dealership that I either went to school with years ago, see in church on Sunday etc. I may have, and probably did, pay a little more for my truck that I could have gotten from another dealer in a bigger city near me. But, I can tell you that when I walk into the dealership, they know me by name and if something goes wrong with my truck I know they will take care of me. To me, that peace of mind and not having to shade my face when I take the truck in for service that I bought out of town from another dealer is well worth the few extra dollars I may have spent.
It does not mean I don't negotiate and try to get a very "fair" deal on the bigger ticket items I purchase but I realize everyone needs to make money and be able to put food on the table and take care of the family.
Depends on the vehicle too. The the cheapest truck I have access to the figure from full sticker to Z plan is just over $2300. Now folks see $10k off a well loaded XLT and expect the same off these basic trucks. It's no where close. On the most expensive truck its up to over $7500. Now like I said, that's not all profit, but it is mostly profit....
When I got my Fiesta S the D plan saved me a big $600 under sticker price, and that difference has shrunk since 2015... I think the folks that want the best deals tend for the least options, which have the lower mark ups, and then they see they "amazing deal" ads and expect the same savings on cheap models.. It aint not there.
Oops.. the cheapest/most expensive I looked up were F150s, the the SD line is similar.... Just wanted to clarify my numbers!
