Lifter installation lube ?

I'm replacing the cam in my 1976 460 with a Lunati hydraulic flat tappet cam. I used moly on the lobes & bearings, but ran out of the small tube they supplied. I plan on priming the oil pump with an old distributor & drill before firing.

Can I use high temp/pressure bearing grease for the foot of the lifters?

Would STP work?

Should I just wait & order another tube of moly?

Thanks,
Tim

That moly type lube should be available at most any auto parts store. Cam break in is most critical when using heavy, stiff valve springs like for racing. A cam for the street does not need such springs and most cam kits will match the springs to the cams intended use and RPM range. Using a break in engine oil or an break in oil additive is a must. Once you have a few hundred to a coupe of thousand miles on the engine you can just use diesel rated oil if it's a street engine.
