Questions and Pics

Hey guys, just wanted to share a few pics and let everyone know the fuel pump replacement went very smooth all things considered. And a 7 year old battery was replaced and she is starting well.

I did have a question about the coolant overflow tank and the gunk I pulled out of it.

Any idea what it could be and how should I proceed from here? Flush the cooling system or just top off? And what antifreeze should I use?

Hard to say...sort of looks like that radiator stop leak stuff but I may be wrong. I recommend flushing the whole radiator and engine out.

Thanks Manfred. That's what I think it is too. I did some searching about which coolant to use and I'll be using distilled water also. This Vegas water is terrible all my faucets and plumbing have scale and build-up, I would hate to see that in my bronco.

X2 on flushing the cooling system really well. Keep an eye on your radiator and water pump for leaks, I doubt the PO put that in there for no reason. I'd also recommend changing out your thermostat (make sure you get the factory temp one) because it is the most likely thing to get gummed up and jammed shut (happened to mine from sitting when I bought it). If your truck has the towing package it should have the 4 row radiator made out of solid brass and copper which is an awesome radiator. If it doesn't have it and you have to replace the radiator, consider it as an upgrade with where you live.

Iron out will clean your radiator and block better than most anything you can get.

Cascade and iron out. Have never heard of those being used to flush a radiator but I'll try if you guys recommend.

And quick update. I had some 50/50 peak green antifreeze on hand and decided to check what was in the radiator first before I added it. What came out was a brown fluid with a green tint so I went ahead and added the peak. It was so low I had to start the truck and run it to get all the air out and top it off right.

The little liquid I pulled out was dirty so I'll try and flush it this weekend. Thanks again guys for the help.

Came out to see this in the afternoon. Its very hard to trace because the fan and the shroud are in the way. There is a small channel were it looks to be pooling and its dripping out by the passenger side onto a braided ground strap. But it looks like it's coming out around the bottom of the radiator. All the hoses look good and both the cap and overflow were dry.

I'm going to continue driving her to work (3miles) until I get the new radiator. Or until she bursts. I'll keep an eye on my coolant level in the meantime.

Any hints tips or tricks to replacing one of these?
