Question Radiator Leak

Looks like I am leaking a little bit of coolant from where the aluminum meets the plastic on the radiator. No obvious start location of the leak. Just a small around of coolant all around the circumference of the radiator and traces of coolant running down both sides of the radiator.

coolant around top edge of radiator

Coolant running down passenger side of radiator

Coolant around edge of radiator

Coolant running down driver side of radiator

I just replaced the coolant a couple months ago.

I have new upper and lower radiator hoses. New water Pump. New Machined billet thermostat housing. New Thermostat.

Since it looks like I need a new radiator what else should I go ahead a take care of while i am at it?

Upgrade to the 6.0 transmission cooler?
Replace degas bottle?
New Radiator Cap?
House from degas bottle to radiator?
Other hoses?
Maybe CAC boots?

Please let me know what else I should be replacing / upgrading while I am at it.

Also searching for a nice how to guide for replacing the radiator.

That's the life span of a crimp on plastic tank. If and when mine starts to leak, I'll probably go get a mishimoto all aluminium radiator.

Ouch... Not sure I can pull that price tag off with the wife. Looks nice tho. Will see what else needs / should / can be done to the EX while I am at it before I decide to spend that much on one.

I don't know how much a new one is, but I found this on CL when I was looking for something else. If it's close to me, I'd be willing to help you out.

I'm having the same problem. Any advice on the OP's question of possible upgrades while changing out radiator? I have the v10

Just get a quality rad from RockAuto or your local parts store and install it.

Silla used to make an all-aluminum radiator for our trucks that was less than half the price of the Mishimoto....I have one. Can't seem to find it on the web now. They might have stopped making them??? The all-aluminum Silla has been in my truck for about 4 years now trouble free.

I believe you're correct.

I just did a "Silla" search at RockAuto and they only have 4 items listed, 3 AC condensers and 1 radiator (for a VW, sorry OP) and they are all marked as "Wholesale closeout" so I would have to think you're correct.

Was it a strait bolt in with no modifications? Do you remember the model number?

Yes, it was bolt in. Even has the transmission oil to water cooler. No idea on model number without taking mine out. Can't find it online anymore...

Is the OEM radiator for the 2002 V10 a 1 row or 2 row core?
I saw a Mishimoto R2171-AT at Summit for $289 that looks interesting.
According to the Mishimoto website it's an aluminum core/plastic tank 2 row with a lifetime warranty.

I recommend upgrading to the 6.0/5R110 transmission cooler.
It will drop you trans fluid temps around 30 deg.
Change the radiator cap, too, especially if it's the OEM cap with the small pressure relief spring.

I've seen alot of talk about changing the trans cooler but how does the upgrade compare to the trans cooler that is stock on the v10?

What is the part number for the pressure cap?

I got my Mishimoto all aluminum from eBay Royal Auto for $385 shipped to my door brand new. Best thing I ever did other than the alternator upgrade.
