62 drivers side door lock
What could be causing the issue.
The Door Inside Handle itself connects to the Door Latch Remote Control, which sounds fancy but it is really just a pivot that the door handle connects to with a flat bar coming off of it. The flat bar in turn connects to the Door Latch Assembly directly. The entire Door Latch is one assembly.
Not a whole lot that can go wrong with the Remote Control mechanism since it is so simple. I'd suspect the Door Latch. They can get gummed up with dirt and old grease and start to not work quite the same. Should be fairly easy to pull off and clean the assembly and see if you can get it working correctly. Once it is clean some fresh lithium grease can keep it working smoothly for quite some time, usually.
My 2 cents.
.
There is no key access on a 62 on the driver side. Only on the passenger side.
The inside hand does push forward. It just will not engage the lock. The truck sits 90% of the time in one of my garages. I mostly just take it to local shows.
I'll try cleaning the latch area to see if that solves the problem.
Then a close up of the unlocked door latch. Notice the sort of quarter moon shaped end of the lever in the lower right of this second picture. It has a hole in it that is where the small rod from the back of the lock cylinder (not seen here) connects to, if you have a lock, which you stated you do not on the drivers side. No worries. No rod would connect there on yours.
Note also the position of the shiny silver rod in this picture and the lever directly above it.
Final picture is of the door latch in the locked position. As you push the handle forward to lock, it pushes the flat bar backward, which rotates the lever above the shiny silver rod and pushes that silver rod down, which rotates the quarter moon ended lever into the way of the bottom end of the main release lever that goes to the outside button.
Opposite happens when you pull the inner door handle back. The flat bar is pulled forward and it rotates the lever that pulls the silver rod up far enough to first unlock, and if you keep pulling, unlatch the door.
That's pretty much it if you don't have an outside lock cylinder and key to contend with.
The outside door handle button is not directly linked to the inner latch, the button just has a stem sticking inside that pushes against the main release lever, but no connection holding them together.
.
I'm hoping the above images will help when I get a chance to look at this on the weekend. It's going to be a little difficult to access given the door is locked shut.
Really stupid question, but which way should I be turning the key to unlock the door - clockwise or counter-clockwise (truck is new to me)?
