Hey guys, one of the finishing touches for my '77 Bruce will be some 15% or 20% window tint all around. Had one place quote me like $225 and another say that the back window has to come out to tint it properly. He says that they can't get tint right up to the rubber seal inside and there may be light showing around the edge or possibly dirt will get sucked in from the seal while installing.
Haven't talked to the $225 place about that yet, what has been your experience?
Bruce has original window seals and metal trim that I don't want to wreck
I had a place in Bellingham, WA do all my tinting. They did the rear window at 0% (not limousine) It's DARK.
The window was installed the day before with new seals before it went to the tint shop. They did an amazing job with the window installed. No light shines around the edges.
This shop did my rear, both door windows, both vent windows, and a 6 inch strip at the top for $260. Here's some pictures below.
I can understand the tinter's point. The seal and glass on the inside doesn't meet at 90 degrees... the seal overhangs the glass. Pop it out and provide the glass and the cost should go down. Might as well replace the seal.
But tinting is something you can do...for about $40.
Tinting is not hard to do. Best is to take out all the glass it makes it easy. Be very careful on cleaning the glass good. You need a good squeegee a razor knife a ruler & water in a squirt bottle. I've done it many times on a dent side.
I have tinted flat windows before no problem when out of the vehicle. If I have to take the window out might as well do it myself. Thanks for the pics Coltin.
