Part one of the question:
I am trying to determine what the correct slider is for my truck. 1977 f100. I have seen solid, black (which look like aftermarket) and the aluminum shown below.
Part two:
Then, if this correct, I am looking for replacement window channels. I have read extensively and looked up part numbers and I think it is going to be a difficult find. I have ordered a few from some online vendors and when I get them they do not work.
Originals from the 73-79 would have been all aluminum, but anything up to a 96 will fit and may include black frame models. I just installed a black frame one from a 88 or 89 in my 75 f100 and can confirm that it fits, including the seal. I think the outer portion of the seal is a bit narrower and I tore the inside lip in a couple places, so I will eventually replace it. But for now it is keeping the wet stuff on the outside where it belongs.
As stated Aluminum is the correct finish for 73-79 however aftermarket ones were made in Aluminum back in the day. A SLIGHTY arched top versus straight across will be additional clue that your Aluminum finish rear window is genuine FORD. Final clue is the glass will be etched with CAR LITE name.

apparently the metal opening of the cabs from 1973 - 1996 are the same and:
rear window and seal from 73-79 will fit 73-96
rear window and seal from 80-96 will fit 73-96
73-79 use thicker glass for solid window, and thicker metal for rear slider frames
80-96 use thinner glass for solid window and thinner metal for rear slider frames
The groove in the seal itself where the window sits is the difference. The thin glass in a seal meant for thick glass will let water in. The thick glass in a thin seal will not fit.
