again numbers.

truck total carry capacity "XL" can carry more the top end model
towing,, truck engine, final drive gearing. tow rating.
Slide-In Camper weight.. is KEY.
jeep weight and trailer weight.

my 2012 F 250 "XL" can carry 3,800 pounds and Tow 10,000 pounds
My Truck has the Camper package AND tow package... Gas 6.2L engine and 3.73 gears.

the truck numbers are on the Door frame.. of get them from Ford.

With OUT numbers.. and NO engine or final drive numbers..

the 4X4 is a minus.
the Crew Cab is a minus.

jeep is 4,000 maybe, trailer is 2,000 maybe . so that would be OK,
Slide-in.. 2000 to the sky.. NO IDEA.

Numbers, of course are key, as Chuck is suggesting though I suspect the deal breaker may turn out to be the slide-in camper. Some of those are gigantic and pack on plenty of pounds.

Back many years ago I used to run Nauset Beach on the Cape (that's Cape Cod for you furriners who think there's more than one "Cape") with a 1976 F-100 short bed 4WD, and an 8' slide in camper. It came all the way to the end of the tailgate. I had a good set of helpers springs in the rear and a 390. So anything is possible.

In my opinion, the "nice" slide in campers are built right up to the specs of the trucks out there now. I saw a super nice slide in with three slide outs. Tons of room inside, it was amazing. But a dually 450 would be necessary to haul it and good luck towing anything but a dinky little row boat.

This is very similar to the setup I've been working on (planning on ordering next week). Main difference is I'm getting a SuperCab. I'm (over)estimating my Jeep and trailer weight at 8000lbs.

You don't say whether you're planning on getting gas or diesel, or long bed or short bed, so here's what you can expect from either with the CrewCab.

Payload:
Short bed has a max rating of 4470lbs, long bed is 4400lbs. That would be for an XL with gas engine and AT tires. Diesel weighs more so you lose payload capability if you go diesel. Some options will also reduce payload (skid plates in the FX4 package, etc).

Towing:
Diesel will give you 18,000lbs, gas will give you 12,300lbs with 3.73 gears and 15,000lbs with 4.30 gears.

With all that you can estimate what weight your camper can be. Say that options on the XLT will cost you some payload and you have 4200lbs left. Tongue weight will be roughly 10% (depending on how you load the Jeep on the trailer), so that's 800lbs, leaving you 3400lbs for passengers, camper, food, and gear. I then deduct 1000lbs for 2 adults, food, gear, etc. In this calculation that would leave you 2400lbs for your camper at wet weight (with fresh water and propane tanks full).

So, will it work? Yes, most definitely. You just have to be very careful in your shopping for a camper and make sure it fits in the weight you have left. Also, once you get the truck you want load up the trailer and take it all to get weighed. Also, figure out what you'll want to pack into the camper and weigh all of that and everyone that will riding in the truck, including pets. That way you'll know just how much your camper can weigh.
