Why do I see both a grille with many skinny cross bars and another with a few thicker cross bars? The thicker bars are very uncommon apparently. Can you order the Lariat grille for an XLT? Love that look! I do not like the look of the skinny bars one bit.
Yes, you can swap the grilles around. For instance, I swapped the stock chrome grille on my Lariat 501A (the wide bar version) with a Lariat Sport grille (same bars, but all black) and it worked nicely.
Interesting. I didn't know there were different grills on the same model. I have the XLT and I have the three wider crossbars. I just have the base (301A I think?) package. I wonder if the more expensive XLT packages come with the other grill? I'm pretty sure the XLs all have just the three corossbar grills, so I assume that's the "base" grill.
I actually also like it better than the one in the image.
Mine's got the skinny bars, and I think it's OK. I have no clue what decides which grill you get (beyond chrome vs black). Some have skinny bars, some thick, some have these aux openings, and so on. Does anyone have a decoder ring to grills?

XLT with 302B package comes with the chrome 'billet' type grille and a host of other features.
note that there are some changes for 2016 and again for 2017. For instance, the King Ranch Chrome package loses the chrome bumpers in favor of the *much* better-looking (IMO) one from the regular King Ranch. The grille is slightly different on the KR between 2015-2016, too. I assume that any of the 2015-2017 grilles will fit any of these trucks, though. Customize away!
Well, this got my curiosity going and I did some quick searches of my local dealers. Looks to be for XLTs about 40% are three bar, 40% are five bar, and the other 20% a mix of what looks like the fancier three and five bar grills, including black, that come on the more expensive trims. In fact the XLTs that had those were the most expensive ones in the inventories.
To tell the truth, I didn't even pay attention when I bought mine, so I guess I'm lucky that I got a grill that I like. Truth be told, I would have even liked the three bar black grill from the XLs a tad better than my chrome three bar to go with my silver truck. I'm a simple man I guess.

I'm almost sure the grills are interchangeable except for Lariat and other models that has a front end camera (with the 360 degree camera option). I never cared what grill I have on my truck although I'd like it a little less chromey.
I'm no fan either of the grey earth cloth interior offered in the XLT I want jet black and see it's offered in one of those special sport XLT packages. Can't imagine how to fix that at a reasonable cost but has anyone been able to get a dealer to special order one item like that that was not offered when ordering from the factory? I just want the regular XLT trim but that black sport cloth with the silver ( and maybe white or black ) paint I want would be nice I think and super practical for me hunting and fishing and not showing dirt.
