Quick question. I need to replace the pick-up coil in my distributor. Based on the diagram in the LMC catalog, it looks like it is installed under the distributor "reluctor"- which looks sort of like a gear wheel.
Can anyone give me the basic how-to on how to remove the reluctor and the pick-up coil currently in the distributor?
My truck's broken down away from the house, so I want to make sure I bring the right tools with me to get this job done.
Don't pry on the tangs of the reluctor as they beak easily, only pry on the base. Also some distributors have more than one groove for the roll pin. Putting the reluctor back oriented to the wrong groove will screw up your timing.

I wish I had found this post before I changed my pickup coil...there were two possible positions for the reluctor and they looked the same...
Turns out, they're quite different. I thought it was the pickup coil that was messed up, but in hindsight, it was the reluctor on backward.
I finally put myself on the right track when I noticed that one point of the "star" looked like it had a dot on it. It didn't really align with the pickup, but it worked on the second try!
