You know what, I bet it was a volunteer fire department guy's vehicle. There are a ton of volunteer FD's around here instead of full time paid guys. Vehicle looks clean so hopefully it was well cared for and the engine wasn't dogged.....now I'm getting bummed lol.

As alluded in other posts I noticed the additional lights on the grill initially and the trans hump.

My guess - at some point this was a vehicle used for shuttling dignitaries of some ilk. Probably not a fire dept vehicle in that color.

Now I'm intrigued. Might have to buy it just to solve the mystery...

Looks to me some poor sap got drained of cash and let it go. Probably paid to much, had problems beside decorating it, lost his job and back in the market it went by auction.

So its a good bet the financier who held the note realized it wasn't worth the hassle to sell on the money owed and tossed in the auction bin for quick relief.

I would be at a $8000 offer. You can go up but never down on the starting offer.

It will need 20 exhaust studs replaced, ball joints, both lock outs replaced cause they all freeze up from up north usage.

These excursions are money pits when distressed.

Here's the trade in value

Based from trade in value, that's a fair starting point. Without seeing it in person, I think $12k is the max (coming from a diesel guy), but if I was you and it was perfect.. $11k would be my stopping point. Too bad I'm not closer to help out anyway.

If it checked out for me personally I'd go to $14k. Looks nice for sure.

Yep, if it is actually clean and rust free and it checks out I would pay around$13k even $15k may be worth it to the right person. Remember, you can't buy a new one from Ford anymore. So it is worth a premium over what any of the books suggest.

I love all the people that are telling you to go and low ball the place. As was stated, they would laugh you out of there!

Even my 02 X with 90k miles is worth more than what some of you guys are telling the OP to offer!

I look at the trade in value and "try" to start negotiations $2000 on lowest trade in value, then work my way up depending how much I love the vehicle. I haven't seen it in person, but the Ex looks very clean. It's possible that the seller will not come below $14k if he knows what he has.

I just looked at Autotrader, did a nationwide search 2005, 4X4, 6.8. 36 showed Range of prices within this search: Highest Price:$26,000 Lowest Price:$7,500 Average Price:$15,484.

A couple years ago some of the guys in Texas helped Apocalypse find his truck. They picked it up inspected and helped him a bunch (see the thread)

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...es-thread.html

Again it's worth if it's what you want.

Here is one north of Atlanta, it sounds decent, no interior pic's, and all of the other pic's were taken in the shade. Don't you hate when they show lousy pictures?

This one is a bit further away, but better pics, and it appears to be unmolested.

It’s a good looking truck.... What gears are in it or will it matter to you? V10 may want 4.30's if you are pulling decent weight... Also look underneath at the running boards for rust.... I missed that one when I bought mine....

Like Pirate said: a mechanics inspection would be a good thing... Go through the front end. 150,000 miles, guessing if still original there are some parts there that are in need some attention, ball joints, wheel bearing hubs, rod ends, play in the steering wheel, front sway bar bushings and links... Everything on the front end of my 00 has been replaced, bought it with 132K.

WES pointed it out… Those little mirrors are cute!!!

Let us know how it works out and best of luck…

Steve

Oh really?

Retail
Base Price $3,675 $4,750 $5,625 $8,100
Mileage (90,000) $1,325 $1,325 $1,325 $1,325
Total Base Price $5,000 $6,075 $6,950 $9,425
Options: (change)
Towing/Camper Pkg $75 $75 $75 $100
Price with Options $5,075 $6,150 $7,025 $9,525

IIRC, you did some rust repair a few years back, so it would not be considered "clean".
