Is Ruby getting ready to take her love to town? I need to have my radiator rebuilt. If you don't mind me asking, what do they charge in your area? Thanks.
probably between $100 and $200 depending if both ends need rebuilt. I used to work at said radiator shop though so I didn't pay that much.
really u could buy a plastic tank radiator (ptr) for that much buy they just don't look right in an old truck IMHO
Valve covers on the old 360 were leaking something fierce. previous owner included a set with the sale. Had to bend back the choke tube a bit to sneak the valve cover out which revealed this crack. Hmmm, that's why the choke was backed off so far lean. old cork gaskets are very crumbly and tend to go everywhere when you scrape then off, paper towels help keep junk out of the valve train. I then vacuum the debris and blow out with an air nozzle also
Front end disassembly to install the new fenders. found a bit of rust to repair in the core support. This thing is mint! Not one screw, bolt or clip broke!
Anybody who says aftermarket fenders are total junk and don't fit properly I would challenge you to measure your factory gaps and panel alignment. I did and it ain't pretty. These were built to be farm trucks, not a lot of care went into fit and finish. I will say the new panels are a touch thinner gauge but I was impressed with the fit. pretty easy to get them lined up even a little better than the old ones.
I don't believe the front of the truck has been touched previously.
Here's a little before and after on the "comet scrub" on rust stained paint. Couldn't find comet at Albertson's so I used Bonami (They even used Bonami!).
Scrubbed all of the white with the Bonami and then polished the red and the white with the TR3. Ran out of time to detail the inside as I'm working 12 hour shifts through today and have been working on the truck after shift.
I'll take some pics when I present it to her tomorrow for Christmas. The paint shined up pretty good but needs another round of polish as its a bit splotchy
Got it finished up just in time for the snow on Christmas morning. Oh well it was just a dusting and she needed to drive her new toy. Paint needs another round of polish but shined up pretty good. I'll give her an oil change when the weather clears up and she can drive her and make a plan for upgrades.
Now Bruce has a shop girlfriend to keep him company for the winter
Hey hivoltj, I think Ruby was a great name because holy cow did that thing polish up nicely!
I live in Rapid now but Joliet, MT is home. My folks live up there still and run some cows now too.
I'm not having much luck finding a rear bumper like the one on your other truck so if you see one in one of the yards up there please let me know. I come up every once in a while but my folks come down here all the time.
Also, and I know this has been said many times but it's true, those wheels you put on are hands down THE best looking factory wheels ever made and they look great on your truck to boot!
Well the super crew was down once again (timing chain) and daily driving Ruby with a non functioning choke was getting old and the carb sprung a leak at the accelerator pump
not only was the choke tube broken, but the plastic fast idle linkage too. Not familiar with the Autolite 2100 but it's a simplified holley design and I figured out out after re-installing. Scored a fast idle cam at the junk yard for $1.
Replaced the choke tube with the Napa hot air choke kit. I was able to pull the broken tube out of the manifold by hosing it with wd-40 while it was warm, clamping vice grips on it and prying against the vice grips
Are my eyes deceiving me or is the just about 6" of hose connected to the front advance port on the Dizzy's vacuum advance. And not hooked to anything? Also, I'd ace that plastic tube for the aftermarket oil pressure gauge. Get a copper line on there. You don't want that plastic line to leak or break when wife's driving it.
