Last week I stopped at my dealer to check out their first '17. It was an F350 6.2. Snapped this quick photo as the bed height was the most noticeable increase to me vs my 250 2016. Reminds me of when the '99's came out and the bed was too tall for most farmers around here running a gooseneck.
That pic really makes the old truck look small and outdated. Heck, even the license plate area is bigger on the new truck.
If I didn't know better, I'd think these trucks were made in Texas...everything's bigger in TX!
The 85" thing is extremely unlikely. Without some sort of board laying across the peak of the cab, just eyeballing it leaves a ton of room for error. I'd wager it's 81.5".
P.S. Plus we know Marines can't read a tape measure.
Does the camper package or plow package add any height to the 2017's?
Not in the rear. In the rear it adds an overload spring to the 250 which is standard on the SRW 350 and a stabilizer bar. The front however, get's a height bump from either package as the heavier rated springs have the truck set taller without the additional weight of a plow or slide in camper compressing them some.
Will the plow package result in a rougher ride if not loaded ?
Some say yes. I didn't think so on the previous gen but it's been too long for me to remember with certainty. We will have to see on the new ones as no one has driven identical trucks back to back with and without the plow prep...
Garage doors for most homes are 7 feet and 8 feet tall and either a single car or double car in width. The rough opening is usually equal to those heights. Finish inside that opening is usually a 3/4 inch piece of dimensional or manufactured lumber with some sort of wrap. (i.e. aluminum or stucco). Then a trim piece is commonly added reducing it another 1/2 inch. My main garage door is 18 feet wide by 9 feet high. It is an arch with 84 inches at the sides but 94 inches of clearance in the center. The third car garage where the truck is parked is a single car opening with plenty of height but gets tight on the sides. I only have a couple of inches on each side of the truck when the mirrors are folded in.
