Sorry guys. I do not know what this is called or else I would have searched for a while before asking question. It's barely dripping red oil (I assume tranny fluid) although I added too much power steering fluid the other day and had to pull some out. Anyway, before I get any further, I was trying to separate the two.... Is it tranny related or power steering related. I have not tried to tighten up the little bolts on each side. Also, the leak is very minor ... maybe a drip or two after I stop running it.
I will attach the photo.... you can see the wet area ... looks like a little nipple or something right in the middle.
That's the lower bell housing cover for the transmission so I suspect it's tranny fluid. It pops off pretty easy but not a lot in there that's serviceable in the truck. Some years had a drain plug on the torque converter. could check that.
Backing up with a heavy load can cause a quick overheat on the trans, and the front trans seal will burp some fluid. Once it cools down it will be fine again. Give it a few days to dry up. Commonly reported by people maneuvering trailers uphill, in reverse. There is an updated seal if you want to replace it.
As mentioned power steering takes ATF on these, not power steering fluid. A little won't hurt but if you put in a lot I'd flush it.

What he said, particularly the part about PS fluid vs. ATF. If you just topped it off with a little PS fluid you MAY be alright, but if you put a substantial amount in, I would flush it out and put new synthetic ATF in it. It will steer better (less effort) and be quieter with synthetic anyway.
