Unhappy Another Leak

My 2011 has only been used for light work use for the last 3 years. It has 28,000 miles. I have babied it up to this point, never even had it on a salted road!

A few weeks ago it was transitioned over to my full time work truck when I put my 2009 up for sale. It now has a trailer behind it every day. Since doing this, my radiator decided to develop a leak which Ford replaced and now today I noticed there is a very small transmission fluid leak that is seeping from the bell housing area. It is not enough to drip, but the oil pan had a coating of tranny fluid and when I climbed completely under the truck to look closely while it was still hot I could see little bubbles of fluid right where the bell housing meets the engine.

I remember hearing about a TSB on early 2011's where there was a pinched gasket during assembly causing a leak. Does anyone know about this?

I would verify the tranny fluid isn't overfilled first and foremost.

Good luck...

That is a strange spot for fluid. Front seal on tranny input shaft or torque converter.

Hi GCLL,

Have you been back to the dealership to have this looked at? Shoot me your information in a PM; I'll see what I can do to assist. Include your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Here is a pic I just took of where it is leaking from. I should have taken the picture before I wiped it all off the other day. There was a coating of fluid over most of the oil pan and the heads of the pan screws. Not enough to drip.

could be the oil pan seam leaking... heck the first time i changed the oil in mine, when i unscrewed the oil filter as soon as it came off the threads it tipped and layed against the tranny lines and dumped oil all over. I cleaned it best i could but within a few weeks the oil i didnt clean off worked its way along the bottom of the bell housing just like you have pictured. I'd look around the pan seam close and even the oil filter bracket for a leak...

No it's not engine oil, that was the first thing I ruled out. I changed my own oil last time and wouldn't leave a mess anyways.

Aerosol brake cleaner is the best thing I've found to clean things up and then see if it comes back.

That looks like engine oil.... I would clean the underside real good with Simple Green and watch it.

If not take it to the shop and get it fixed. I'm sure it's a simple fix. These 6.7 just don't leak oil.

I would be cautious using brake cleaner on that plastic oil pan. This is why I recommend using Simple Green.
