Front Bearing assembly

2001, F250, 4x4, 432,000 miles...

Seems this truck eats up bearing assemblies. Anyone else have that problem? Its like every 2-3 years, I'm having to replace one side or the other. And we talking like 30-40,000 miles.... gezzz

What brand you guys think is the best ?

BTW.... although I'm not out doing much 4x4 driving, this truck does do a lot of dirt roads, probably over 50%...

How's your ball joints? Worn out ball joints can stress the hub bearings.

Our you greasing the bearing before you put them in? You need to use high quality grease. And are the stub shafts in good condition? They will take out bearing also. Timken bearing are what most use.

I'm guessing ball joints are ok, since I get it lined up and they haven't told me they were messed up. Tires wear normally.

Its a hub bearing assembly, self contained, you just bolt it on. Its sealed up. No water in the 4x4 hub side either.

You still have to grease the bearing before you bolt them up. This is very important. Use high quality grease to do this. Just push it in with your finger all around and your good to go. That's if the stub shaft is good to.

I believe you are both talking about two different bearing assemblies. You are (I am assuming) talking about the needle bearing, and yes, this does need to be packed with grease before install. I believe he is referring to the main hub bearing? Which is indeed greased from the factory.

Just trying to help clear up some confusion....

your signature indicates "stock" are your rims stock and stock size tires ?

how many miles would you estimate you spend on dirt roads ?

fwiw, I spend a good deal of time in the desert in Baja mexico and i ditched the stock unit bearings in favor of a serviceable wheel bearing setup because the sealed unit bearings don't last long off road.

I used to carry a spare hub assembly with me, now I just carry a bearing set.
