Before signing my sales order I noticed the cost for "vin etching" and asked about it. He said it is policy that they do all new vehicles. I just said thanks, but your policy doesn't dictate what money I spend, so if it is your policy and my money, thanks for putting it on. They did not charge me, took the cost off the order.

yup! We got a little VW Golf for our au pair, they added the etching for free.. but it does seem like some dealers want $200 for that, but there are 'DIY VIN Etching' kits on Amazon for < $20 that seem to etch just as well..
