Hey guys, quick question on an inline 6 lower intake manifold. One of the bolt holes broke off my lower intake, it's the hole all the way to the back of the engine on a 96, should I take it in to a machine shop and see if they can fix it or go to a junk yard? Being a welder I know the time it would take machining it needing to control temperature and setting it up correctly... how much should I expect this to be at a junk yard as well? It would have to be considerably cheaper for me to have it fixed being that I would risk having it break again. Thanks for any input it's very appreciated!
Junkyard would be best option as there are many of them around.
Welding it back together is possible with a TIG welder, but my friend who does aluminum prop(boats) repair said it was hard to keep it from cracking again. Has too much porosity in the aluminum casting on the ones he tried.

That's what I thought, I've welded aluminum, and I've welded cast and both are difficult in and of themselves... how much do they run?
These are the "you pull it" place prices. Other places that take them off for you will cost more!
I like getting my own parts, you can see what happened to the vehicle and also get the little bolts, nuts ,washers ect that the prepulled parts never get.
Years ago I scored a good Oppy DP intake(4bb carb intake) for my 84 F250 for just $20 along with the special washers too(pocket pals). I passed on the messed up long tube headers though...... that was another $20 when I asked.

Yeah that's a pretty good deal, idk if I live near any "you pull it" places. There's one 40 minutes away but the last time I went up there it was to get a pressure release valve for my gas tank and the guy told me he'd never heard of it and told me to leave... I told him I'd give him like 50 bucks for it and he still told me to leave... last time I ever go there and it's a ford owners paradise with the amount of trucks they have...
Another bonus to "Pick-N-Pull" places is that when you take a part off, you learn how it goes back together, or things you might need to remove (or not), etc.
