Seems like when truck gets hot it stops and when it cools down it works again. Not sure if anything else is going dead like lights cuz i really only drive it during the day.
The reason I asked is because on 78 & 79 models the horn wiring is different between with and without cruise.
On models without cruise, the horn button is an actual power switch, not just a ground circuit like earlier trucks.
Your truck does not have a relay and I can't really see anything in the cab that engine temps would affect.
I would check the horn wiring in the engine compartment and also I would clean and check the terminal connection on the horn(s).
If all of that checks out I would tear down the horns and clean up the contacts inside. They are actually pretty simple inside. I rebuilt mine and posted a thread on the process: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...horn-work.html
Still having intermittent horn problems. Waiting at a drive through yesterday and pulled away I needed horn and it didnt work.. drove for about 2 block and Viola it worked again. WTF?
I suggest installing a jumper wire across the rag joint. I recall there is a thin copper bonding wire there that might be broken and working intermittently.
