Steering Box or Hellwig?

2002 Ex 7.3 w/ 35" tires, everything else is in SIG.

Going to by Hartland BH TT next year will be around 9,500 lbs loaded. I will be getting 4.10s gears installed in about a few mouths, shop has a long waiting list. Want that stock take off again and the extra pull for the trailer on grades.

So steering is loose, (2" to 3" of play in wheel) should I put a remain Ford steering box in or do a rear sway bar (Hellwig)? If you had to choose 1 which would help the most. Steering box or Rear Sway Bar.

May end up doing both but need to make sure the funds are there for the gears and any unforeseen issues adding to the cost.

Also while I have your attention, still not sure if I want to go with True Track or Alburn Limited slip. I don't put a lot of miles each year on the excursion but it is my daily driver. Work from home so don't drive often.

Price between the True Track and Alburn is about $300 higher for True Track.

Thanks in Advance.

If your steering box is worn out then it is a no brainer, replace any worn out parts before you start modifying the handeling of a vehicle.

I am personally not a fan any limited slip like the auburn that uses clutches so I would opt for the trutrac.

Once you get any worn out parts replaced and start modifying your ex.
A rear locker, and to an extent a limited slip rear differential will increase understeer, adding or increasing the rear sway bar size can counteract that and lessen understeer.

So should I just leave the diff open? I have done rock crawling with front and rear lockers in, not in the Ex...lol For a street queen such as my Ex for towing should I just leave the rear end open and save the money by not doing a locker?

If you think you will need the extra traction then the trutrac is a good unit.
There are plenty of situations that a street queen or tow rig can use a LS.
Wet roads, snow, boat ramps, wet grass, gravel roads ECT. Just depends on how you plan to use it

I have front and rear ARB lockers in mine and the rear comes in handy even when I am not "off road"
