Locker with IRS Question??

I know that my Navi does not have any type of locker in the rear diff, so I was thinking about adding one for when I get into the mud & snow.. Was thinking about some type of non clutch-type "limited slip".. I would like to be able to have the rear-end fully locked when off road.. Has anyone heard of doing this with the IRS in the rear?? Will the CV shafts be able to handle the added stress..

Thanks for any info that you have on this idea..

I am sure that one model or other came with a locker of some type. in the rear axle. You could also go with a selectable locker meaning it is an open or limited slip type until you flip the switch then you would be locked. Another possibility is what is called a lunch box locker. This is where you take the side gears out the rear axle carrier and replace them with the locker. I am not sure how this would work with a truck the size of an expy. Research these very carefully as some of these lunch box lockers can make a clicking noise around corners. One that I am looking at for my Jeep is the Power Trax No Slip. I have heard that this one does not click. The biggest thing about a lunch box is there is no set up. The ring and pinion do not have to come out.
I have been looking at the Eaton E-Locker for the front of my expy. This one is electrical and is open until you throw the switch then it is locked. Never put a automatic locker in the front as it will make steering almost impossible.
Just my .02 worth but you should be able to do some thing and as you already know the traction will be a lot better.

my 03 expy has a oem locking diff. some of the nav's did as well. i think that if the truck has traction control, it doesnt have a posi rear because they will fight each other.

I've been doing some research on all the types of lockers, I'm learning alot.. Kind of overwellming with all the different types out there, but I'm not finding many that fit the 9.75" Ford rear..

Does anybody know what diff is in the front of a 03 Navi?? If I'm going to get lockers, might as well as do them both at the same time..

The "lunchbox lockers" seem like a great way to go, but I couldn't find any that fit a 9.75"?? Any ideas on this????

Thanks for any info..

You're right about that. If his Navi has the traction control then he will need a selectable locker. If he doesn't have the traction control then he can install a limited slip, which is what you should have in your 03, or he can install a full time locker, but that greatly change the everyday on road handling.

I'd give Randy's Ring and Pinion a call, 800-292-1031 or ringpinion dot com. Probably one of the most knowledgeable drivetrain businesses out there. They can tell you what you currently have, what is out there to install and help decide what would be best for your needs.
