Well the deal on the parts truck fell through so I'm back to square one. I would like to start accumulating parts to have ready for when this build gets kicked off, question is what are the best places to get good quality parts. I know LMC carries a ton of stuff but have heard bad reviews on them before.
What transmission will bolt to the Windsor? I want to keep it auto so my uncle can drive the truck one day. Is there any overdrive options from newer model trucks that will work, or do you just slap a gear vendors unit on the back? It's going to be mostly a weekend cruiser but will see drive time when the weather permits. Thanks for the help in advance.
You have a few options for an overdrive auto, depends on what you're willing to spend!
Cheapest I would say is the AOD - no electronics, found in the late 80's vehicles. Uses a throttle cable that must be adjusted properly for shifts. I had an 88 F-150 with 302 and AOD, worked fine but it locks the torque converter in Drive and OD so not real great for performance. The AODE is electronic controlled and updated, see Baumann below for controls.
E4OD is basically an electronic C6 with overdrive. Handles horsepower, but is heavy.
For performance I would go with the 4R70W, it's an electronic controlled overdrive with a wide ratio gearset, basically fully modern AOD. I believe Baumann makes an aftermarket controller for it. Lots of information on their website: http://www.becontrols.com/
What fits a Windsor? Should be able to grab anything from behind a 302 (5.0) or 351W (5.8), just be sure the flex plate balance matches your Windsor.

Awesome thanks for the information. I'm not dead set on an overdrive trans yet, just throwing it around since I have to get a trans for it anyways. I at least know what to look for now though.
Long time no see. Sadly the truck still sits in the grass, I'm a full time college student and work full time so time is limited until summer. Anyways, went venturing around my uncles farm, found the motor in the garage that apparently has a few grand sunk in it, I can't vouch for that and I also am not for sure what motor it is. While plundering I found a near perfect grill and bezels for the F100 laying in the back of an old dump truck, and he also told me to use parts from his old bronco. It's an ex sheriff truck, I can't remember what packages it has but it's very rough. I might save it for a later day but I'm not sure yet. Anyways onto the pictures. Sadly I don't have any of the grill yet it's laying on my current project which is a dodge I hope the grill doesn't Infect it. Haha
Ordered the marti report yesterday and paid for the rush because I'm impatient and this is what I received. I'm pretty stoked to see all the information these provide. Really cool and worth the money.
Sweet, he gave me a 302 eddy four barrel carb and intake in case I wanted to go that route. I think I've got in total four engines to choose from. I'll probably go with the Windsor as that's the way he wanted it.
