1966 f250 engine,trans,brake swap from 1970 f250

Hi, maybe these questions have already been answered but I couldn't find specific stuff when I searched. Suggestions, answers, opinions or points in the right direction are greatly appreciated.

I have a 1966 F250 with worn out 352, 4 speed standard trans, it's stock mechanically. I also have a 1970 F250 ranger camper special, very rusty, but with strong 390, automatic, rebuilt power assist brakes with front disks, and power steering. I would ideally like to swap all the good from the 70(engine, transmission, brakes and power steering) into the 66. I have read that many people use 73-79 f250's for donor vehicles as many crucial parts will bolt in from one truck to another. I am looking for information on whether this holds true for the 67-72 generation as well. Specifically will the 390 will bolt straight into where the 352 was, whether the automatic can be made to fit where a manual trans was, if the power assist front disc's and rear drums will bolt in where the old brakes were, and again if the power steering will fit as well. Most of this work would be done by a qualified mechanic, but still don't want to get in over my head or go bankrupt on this project... Thanks in advance.

I used a '71 for most of the parts when I did my swap and it all basically bolted in. I didn't swap engines but they are essentially the same.

2WD or 4WD?

If 2WD, everything will swap over.

Different wheelbase, so different driveshaft.

Both trucks are 2wd. Friend's and mechanic mentioned that the current driveshaft won't work, so I've found a place that will shorten mine or build me one(not overly expensive), so far this sounds good. Thanks! This is a huge help! Any more thoughts or resources please pass them on...

The F250 with optional dual piston caliper front disc brakes has 12" x 2 1/2" rear drum brakes.

If the 1966 F250 is a Camper Special or has a GVWR of 7,500 lbs., it too has 12" x 2 1/2" rear brakes.

But, if it's not a Camper Special or does not have a 7,500 lbs. GVWR, the rear brakes are 12 1/8" x 2."

The 66 is not a camper special, it has a 6000lb rating. Any idea if there is still a practical way of swapping brakes? Could be dumb question but is swapping whole axles feasible without that part of the project becoming more work than its worth? Again, thanks

Your 1966 F250 currently has 12 1/8" x 2" front & rear drum brakes.

They were barely adequate when the truck was new, today they could be dangerous...especially when they get wet.
