Miraculously the axle tag is still there, it's barely legible. Is there a certain order to the letters/numbers on the tag?

Ok, so I took a wire brush to the axle tag and the numbers look like this:

4 09 D3TA
603395-1

Does this look right to anybody? And if so what does it translate to?

Thank you very much Filthy Beast, that's exactly what I was looking for. So I have the 3500lb front axle.

No...you don't.
D3TA-GA/603395-1 = Dana 44-6CF Front Driving Axle - 4.09-1 with free running hubs; no Limited Slip; 3.3M (3,300 lbs.) front axle capacity.

Original application: 1973 F250 Regular Cab 4WD 3,300 lbs. capacity front axle with P/S

Thanks NumberDummy, guess i'll order the parts for the 3300 lb axle.

That list contradicts your first post in the link Filthy Beast posted:

Original application: 1973 F250 4WD.

C7TZ3220A .. Left Axle Shaft Assy / 28 11/32" long / Obsolete / Fits: 1967/77 F250 4WD.

B9TZ3249A .. U-Joint / Obsolete / Fits: 1959/77 F250 4WD.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has the axle shaft assy, which included both the inner and outer shafts.

Found a gazillion U-joints.
