So I pretty much pulled the audio system the previous owner had installed himself. It was a complete mess and I was short on time so just pulled it all out without taking note of what was all in there
Does anyone by any chance know what I need to install a new system lol. I already have new speakers. I remember the previous system had a fusible link that ran from the solenoid to an old Sony amp that was under the passenger seat, then it split off from there to the two back speakers and to an additional amp that was mounted in the back of the truck. I can't remember what else was in there. There's still the old wiring for the front speakers as there were no front speakers installed when I bought my Bronco... so I didn't touch those wires at least
Do I need to run a new fusible link and wire to the solenoid? I know nothing about car audio... I work at a recording studio so you would think I should know, but I have NO clue when it comes to car audio lol
Unless it was cut off, you should be able to use the original connector with an adapter to hook up to your head unit. If you already have that and are just speaking of after the head unit, you'll most likely be running an RCA left/right off the unit to your amp, plus a wire that cuts the amp on and off when the head unit goes on and off. Depending on how much power your amp will consume, based off of the amp and speakers hooked up, you'll need to make sure your power cable (that is fused and runs from probably the solenoid area) is adequate in size/length. You'll also want to ground your amp and you should be able to do that running to a screw to the bare metal floor pretty close by.
I had a similar issue, coloured spaghetti wiring where the stereo was. I went to the Auto Wreckers and got the original harness to the stereo and a foot of wire to color connect the wires back to normal. from there I put a $5.oo Wal-Mart stereo kit to make the wires go to Alpine colors, no confusion there. Still have to figure out the amp, but that will come straight from the Battery.
