getting tired of getting towed. 188,000 mileage, Within past 3 weeks 3 tows.broken brake line over rear diff. $300, Ford Dealer. Dead starter $280. Replaced GPR $196. It would start after slow 10 count after "wait to start" light went out yet still cranked for 2 seconds before start. ran great at highway speed. yesterday would not start. Retired, can't afford to replace. I always thought this engine would never crap out. Are there any codes that would positively identify the problem (it's back at the dealer for their $100/hr rate) I did treework for $25/hr for 35 yrs. any ideas anyone?
There is a connector on each valve cover gasket That supplies power to the glow plugs and power to the injectors that connector and related wiring unde the VC is known to melt and cause issues. Last one I worked on only has one glow plug working. An intermittent miss on 2 cylinders. Replaced the glow plugs valve cover gaskets and a couple pieces of under VC wiring and we where good to go.
Good news! The Ford mechanics diagnosed the problem and determined that a faulty alarm was preventing fuel flow. Removed alarm. Truck now starts immediately when "wait to start" light goes out. only $98. charge
