I've been surfing around looking for a nicer bumper for my '66 f100, but cant seem to find any. It has this huge steep bumper on it now and i'm looking for something more....sleek. Does anyone know of a place that has custom bumpers for this year model or a way to pre-fab one.
I have been unable to find a step bumper that is made to fit. But if you want a nice bumper without a hitch (or to be used with a reciever hitch), then they are definitely out there. I ordered one from MACs but have seen them elsewhere at Dennis Carpenter as well.
The 67-72(?) step bumpers actually will bolt up BUT if they have the forward "wings" they'll scratch your rear quarter, or so I hear. And the 72-81(?) bumpers will NOT scratch, BUT they don't bolt up as the frame is wider. I'd bet if you are handy with a torch or cutoff saw you could adapt a 73 to a 66. But cannot promise. One other fellow said he did.
well i've got an idea, lets see if this sounds like a good idea to you guys. Go to a junk yard and find anothe tail gate to match mine. Measure out the height from the bottom of the tail (leaving alittle room for swing) to the bottom of the lower quarter panel on the bed. Take the new bed and hack that much off the top of the junk yard bumper, brace it up, fill it upside down and weld it in the place of the old bumper
Try the stock rear chrome or painted bumper. It matches the front contours somewhat. I've got one on my 76 and will be puting one on my 64. I think you would like it
