So I have a nice head unit with a screen already so all I need is the camera. I hate the look of the license plate mounted cameras and so I think the best route to go is a round one I can put in one of the holes for my inop backup system sensor holes. This is the one I found, but I'm not sure what I think of it.
I'm also not sure if I should go wireless or not. It's not that the work to run the wires is to much it's just it might be more trouble than it's worth considering it's just a few bucks more.
Bah. Just get a selfie stick and flip your phone camera to front mode
That's what I've been doing but I'm tired of running over the neighbors kids bikes when they leave them in the street behind my truck. It's not that I wouldn't hit them anyway, I would just know to speed up a little more first
I know, I re-read through that (and posted in there as well) but didn't see anything new that didn't really help with my choices. I like the idea of the third brake light camera but wanted to see if anyone chimed in with it.
I used the type that bolted to the license plate bracket and drilled a small hole in the license plate for the wire. Fishing wires across the ceiling is fairly easy, i pulled extra wires for led back up lights.
Ended up using this one because I like the clarity, adjustability, size and the distance lines. ( green, yellow, red lines that show up on screen to show how far you have to go before hitting )
it's so small it looks more like a squished bug then a camera.
I use this guy by Metra from Frys Electronics. I too dislike the ones that mount to the license plate and are bulky on the top of the plate. I like this one because the metal mounting plate can be mounted behind the license plate and the camera just sticks up over the middle of the license plate.
As far as wired vs wireless goes... I prefer wired. I tried a wireless on my tundra and the connection was very sketchy. The wired one just works and there's plenty of cable to go under the carpet and under the kick plates. I went on the passenger side.
Given the choice of wireless or hard wired, I would go with hard wired every time on something like this, too many thing around these days to interfere with a cheap wireless setup.
