Camera Delay on SD Production

I see a few post where people are looking at delays and trying to guess when their long awaited and deserved trucks will come in. Good news is there is only one item on delay... the bad news is, it is a "HIGH" delay and on most of the nice trucks.

"Rear View Camera 87.1 HIGH"

That's the exact quote, not entirely sure what it means with the 87.1, but for those of you getting XL work trucks, I think you're safe.....

Which rearview camera? The standard backup cam located in the tailgate? Or the one at roof level in the 3rd brake lamp? If a person's truck has already been built, are they safe?

Thinks for the info. I was in a 350 DRW that had the rear view camera in it. So I guess that they had a few for early production. Or they found a bug in the system.

Most likely not, you may die.

Sorry, I couldn't help but be a smart A there.... I haven't seen any TSBs or anything, if you were able to operate a truck for the last 100 years you should be just as safe now. I am unsure which camera they are referring to as 87.1 isn't a number I'm familiar with.

Thanks Franz for the news, good or bad. I won't shoot the messenger. When I looked this up in the order guide I came up with the following which seems like it might be the standard back up camera:
"Rear View Camera (Electrochromic Mirror
w/video display on XL; XL with 96V Value
Package, XLT and Lariat display in center stack
Screen; NA w/66D Pick Up Box Delete or 557
Airbag Delete)
871"
Just a guess or coincidence for the "871"

My XL's on hold, any clues? Dealer just emailed saying expected release 9-25, which seems awful far from their original 8-8 eta.

My truck has the camera in the tailgate as well as the third brake light. I'm sure most of the XLT gas burners that are on the lots have both of these as well.

It seems odd that something this simple would cause a delay.

It may simply be a vender issue with making enough. Anytime you take one of the best selling vehicles and start adding a part as nearly "standard" they may not fully understand the production requirements. Remember the F150 frame shortages? You'd think it'd be simple enough to not screw up.

Especially if they recognize the Federal Standard mandating cameras in 2018. Think of the lives it will save where there was no other option but to run 'em over before. Per your post.

I think last time I did the math it was several hundred thousand dollars per live saved with back up cameras, which I found to be a pretty poor economic argument. Not that I'm opposed to them, but I am opposed to a majority of added expenses to vehicles. Pay me a single $100G note a year and I'll guarantee two lives saved!

And hope that it comes with an automatic annual renewal! And I am surprised the cameras don't come with a name "Nadia's Cam" or "Billy's Cam" or some other feel good name to cover for someone who can't drive but wants to blame something/one else. Spend millions on cameras and screens, which I do agree are nice but not necessary, and yet I watch vehicles on the street with only the crown of the head above the dashboard, beads, cd's and fuzzy whatevers hanging in the drivers view or the portable tv on the dash and not a word said about it. More regulation and legislation over a less than .1% action (backing up) and going forward a gadget delight slumped low so the cell phone can't be seen. And I bet it is over a million.

Since I have both camera's, the math is simple for me. At least it explains why my truck's been in production for three weeks.

I had heard it was the trailer back up camera. I ordered a 450 KR and all the trailering stuff on May 23rd and it is still in process with no ETA or VIN. Mine might be an issue because it is a 450 and those might be low production. I did get a picture of a 450 in the yard ready for shipment so maybe they are finally getting ready for retail delivery!

I did chat with a rep on the Ford website and he said that the dealer orders are now being filled which will trigger the retail orders. I asked about the OK to ship date and he had no answer about if that had happened or was forthcoming.

If it were just the trailer back up camera I guarantee these trucks would be on the way and the camera would follow when they become available.
