i already changed the muffler, riding a flowmaster super44.
may i should kill the cat, replacing it or just install pipe ?
any guesses how many hp it could bring? got the 330cui ...
I had 2 cats to begin with, primary and secondary and both of them were at least 25 years old, they built a new y-pipe and installed the Super Converter then plumbed it in with the Dynomax muffler, the muffler was big improvement but the real gains came after installing the Super Converter, it's 2 converters in one and designed for increased performance..
The engine revs freely and pulls up hill, got no complaints and glad i invested the money.. https://www.summitracing.com/search/...per-converters
I put a superchip microtuner in my E350 10 years ago, the improved shifts, it learns as you drive, so if you are hard on the throttle it bangs through gears like a race car, put 70,000 miles on it with it in there, responds well with other modifications, opened exhaust, removal of the intake restriction/silencer, etc. I hauled a 96 convertible Mustang loaded with someones belongings across the mountains of Tennessee and North Caroline, had it in overdrive, able to accelerate going up, having trouble sticking to the speed limit, it kept creeping far over. The vans have like 2 mufflers from the factory on them, very restrictive, I hadn't owned it a week before that was ditched for an old Flowmaster 40, and in 13 years that has gotten loud. The 5.4 97-99 were non PI head, so they had less HP, but no threats of plugs stripping or blowing out either.
Tuners now have a choice, 87 octane or the higher 93 octane, which gives the most power, when I got mine you just got the high one, which is 28 extra HP at the cost of expensive gas. Yes they are worth it for the transmission reprogramming alone, firmer shifts, great for towing.
I haven't seen the Superchips for pre-99 E-series vans yet and would also be interested in a good programmer for my '98 5.4 to adjust shift points and speedo to my 32's and pep it up a bit. Muffler is changed to a 14" Flowmaster Super44 already.
Had the Superchips programmer on my '00 2500 RAM with the 5.9 gasser, which was a slug with 33's and the stock 3.55 gears. Had it on 93 octane (which is the standard gas you get here anyway, despite I run my V8's on higher octane LPG anyway) and it felt like a new truck. Superchips claims +45hp for the Dodge and that seems quite accurate. I couldn't spin the 33's on wet surface stock, with the programmer I was able to lay a good amount of rubber on dry tarmac
My ext E350 weighed 8000 pounds on the scale empty after hauling off trash years ago, after the tuner, I spun a 360 at a gas station, dry pavement, I turned the wheel at the stop sign and gunned it, next thing the van was turned around in a smoke cloud. Due to tire cost I decided to refrain from doing so, I have 3.55 gears and the factory limited slip.
