My 2001 F150 is need of an a/c recharge. I have done this many times on other vehicles I've owned, but for some reason, the low-side valve does not accept the standard R134 attachment on my recharge line. I compared the low-side nipple to others on different vehicles, and the one on my truck is definitely different!
Did Ford put a different nipple on 2001's? I could use your help.
DSN46, it should be the same as any other R134a low side fitting. Not to imply anything, but are you looking at the rite fitting? I do A/C work on a daily basis and I sometimes try to hook the low hose the high side..OOPS. The high side fitting is always going to be bigger than the low side fitting. Hope this helps, let us know.
Thanks for the quick response!
Yes, I am looking at the right fitting. The one that is located on the accumulator on the passanger side next to the firewall.
Not sure why it wont take a standard 134 line....
Just found this thread. That fitting should be just perfect for your R134 charging system, unless it is damaged in some way. It is a standard universal design. If you could take a picture of it and your equipment maybe we can see what the problem is.
The accumulator has two ports, one for charging and the other for installation of the cycling switch.
Oh and be sure you have removed the black cap on the charge port. I know that sounds crazy but I have to consider all possibilities.
Thank you for your reply in this matter!
It turns out that I did have the right fitting.... and yes the black cap was off ..... I was just at the wrong angle.
I got a step stool out and stood on it to where I could actually get to the fitting properly and guess what? It worked!
I am so sorry for creating a problem where there was none,
but thank you so much for the reply. (Feel like an idiot now)
