I don't need one yet (thank Yeezus) but some point down the road, I have little doubt that something in my old-as-hell computer will give out. When it does, I want to find the BEST replacement. I've heard horror stories about the regular auto parts stores CPUs (Cardone, etc) and I don't want to go that route. So, where is the best place to order these EEC-IV CPUs?

 

Standard Motor Products used to the best refurbished PCM vendor I dealt with. I am not certain they are still remanufacturing them. They actually test them instead of sticking a pretty label on it. You may find a retailer with stock.

What are the signs of a bad ecm?

 

Continuously running fuel pump(s), multiple codes, poor running, no start, intermittent stumble and the list goes on.

 

Best thing you can do is open up the case and look for leaking capacitors. It's easy enough to do and then you can address the issue before it might leave you stranded.
