So my sister has a 2000 Ranger 2.5L. I put in a new starter today for her today, and the second I re attach the battery terminal it turns over but wont fire. ?
Was just wondering if it is getting fuel and spark both,,, you only need 3 things to fire a cylinder ,,,, air,,, fuel and spark .. Which are you missing ??? Most likely fuel or spark,,,you can try giving the Throttle Body a shot (spray) of starting fluid and if it runs a second and quits then it is a fuel problem,, if it still does not start it is a spark problem... when you say the second i attach the battery terminal it turns over but wont fire,,, I assume you mean when you turn the key,,, and not fire up,,, or do you mean wont fire the plugs ??? There is a fuse under the hood that applies voltage to the coil packs..and also a fuse for the anti theft system ,,, the anti theft system can stop fuel or spark or both depending on year and model...here is a wiring link that might help you out ......Search Wiring Diagrams
Oh maybe I miss understood if the starter is turning the engine over just by hooking the cable up then I agree with cracked block,,, your starter solenoid is stuck or sticking and sometimes a good whack will unstick it,,,sometimes it wont
